Sushi in the Village
I've been planning my sister and brother-in-laws baby shower for a few weeks now, and since it's on Saturday, I figured I should go grocery shopping and pick up everything I need. On our way to Langley, we decided to have dinner first. We were going to go to our new favorite hole-in-the-wall-but-has-awesome-THAI-food restaurant, but thought, maybe something closer and on route. We passed my a new development into the small mini mall-ish area and had dinner at Village Sushi. We weren't sure what to expect - and since our most favorite sushi place is still under construction and a million miles away, we figured it couldn't be so bad. So, we walked in, sat down, and perused their menu. I was glad to see actual asian people behind the counter, even tho' we were the only asians in the restaurant.
We ordered our rolls, and were pleasantly surprised. Lauryn had her usual avocado roll, which was extremely fresh and not discolored, and some california roll. Nick and I ordered agedashi tofu, a double dynamite roll (2 prawns!!!), a chopped scallop roll (your usual with masago and mayo), and a 'crazy boy' roll, which was new to us. Highly recommended! It's basically a rectangular shaped california roll, deep fried in tempura batter, and sprinkled with sweet chili sauce and masago. All of the above were served very fresh and tasty! We would definitely come back to this place.
Prices are comparable to most, some things the same, some slightly more. Lauryn was given a strawberry shortcake plate and fork, with a snow white cup to use. How often does that ever happen? The sole lady server was nice, too. She pronounced Lauryn's name "Rawryn"...When we got our bill, we were also handed a nice plate of fresh fruit, instead of mints, or fortune cookies...it had a few white cherries, a few bluberries, 3 white nectarine slices, and orange pieces, which were nicely placed in its skin, which was shaped like a bowl.
The only thing to keep in mind, tho', since they are so new and have minimal staff, is to sit in the restaurant area, and not in the rooms. They tend to forget about customers in there...wasn't us, but another couple who probably won't "go there again"....
Yum yum yum!
